Community Sport Hubs
Community Sport Hubs in Dundee
The development of the first phase of Community Sport Hubs project in Dundee began on 5th July 2011 and is being delivered in partnership with Leisure & Culture Dundee, Dundee City Council Environmental & Education Departments, Tayside & Fife Regional Sporting Partnership and Sportscotland.
Community Sport Hub's will focus on the needs of the particular local community, in which it is based, offering local clubs and sports groups easier access to sporting facilities, as well as providing community volunteers with an opportunity to lead the development of local sport and physical activity in the area.
Hubs will be based in local facilities such as sport centres, community centres, schools and / or the natural environment. They will also provide information, support and advice on a wide range of sports and physical activities to make it easier for local people to get involved and engage in a more active and healthier lifestyle. Community sport hubs are very much a long-term project and sportscotland has allocated an annual budget of £1.5m National Lottery funding to support them up to 2015.
Dundee City Council, after long consultation with Sportscotland and all existing hubs in Dundee decided on spending a proportion of the yearly funding to appoint a full time development officer to drive forward the project and support all local sports clubs and the 5 Hub committee structure's.
Daryl McKenzie was appointed the Community Sport Hubs officer and started in post early July 2011. Daryl's role is to support the voluntary committee's involved within each hub structure and to drive the project forward on a day to day basis by working with the individual sport clubs to continue progressing and developing each projects priorities.
